Poker players protest government seizure

Washington (CNN) — Shaun Poland is 25 years old, he wears a lip ring, and he lives in southern Maine.

He keeps up with the news and he cares deeply about some things, like health care policy. His health insurance runs out ten months from now – when he turns 26.

“In the United States, we always preach freedom. When it comes to something like online poker, this is something I do in my own house. I’m not forcing anyone to do it,” he says.

Poland is really involved now that the Justice Department has frozen him and millions of other Americans out of three major online poker sites. The government alleges the companies and their leaders engaged in bank fraud, money laundering, and broke anti-gambling laws.

“It becomes almost offensive to me when the government wants to take that freedom away.” Poland says. “I’m not asking for anything. I just want to do this [play online poker].”

If you don’t play poker it may be hard to see how a game can strum up the big ideas behind America: freedom and liberty, and the right to live the way you want within the law.

Shaun has stitched together work here and there with his tech and web design background, so he’s online a lot. Like – 60 to 70 hours a week.

“It’s an easy way to just relax maybe spend a half hour, talk to other poker players we have stuff in common with. And just have fun.’

He says when he plays, sometimes he makes money – $100 or $200 dollars in a week. Sometimes, he loses money.

He’s a professor at Harvard Law School where he teaches his students poker, as a strategy for law – and for life. He founded an organization that is actually called the Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society.

It’s based on the view that poker is a game of skill that can teach big things: strategic thinking, and how to look at risk, and even geopolitics. These people see poker as a metaphor for the skills you need to live in a complicated world.

“It’s actually the liberty of playing. That’s a true way of exercising a freedom on the net. It’s a form of internet liberty I happen to value considerably and think replicates too many other things,” he says.

The government seized the online poker sites under a 2006 law that bans all financial institutions – banks, credit card companies, and online payment companies – from dealing with illegal Internet gambling.

But there’s no federal law that bans people from playing online poker. And while the Justice Department takes the view that Internet gambling is illegal, no court has settled the question of what is illegal and what is not.

He wants them to think of ways a regular citizen, like himself or Shaun Poland, could challenge the government in court.

He’s joined players who have peppered the Justice Department’s Facebook page with complaints.

And he’s called the U.S. Attorney’s office in New York and encouraged others to do the same.

That didn’t get very far. He and the others got sent to a recorded phone message at the U.S. Attorney’s office. A lot of people are interested in this case. One website that posted the court documents has gotten more than a million page views.

The Justice Department declined to comment beyond its written statements about the case. It did agree to allow two of the sites to return players the money they had in their online accounts.

Meanwhile, Poland has produced a YouTube video that shows players they can go to other sites to play poker if they want to.

He shows one poker site, in real time, where 3 players from the U.S. are betting between $500 and $1,600 dollars.

However, if you are playing a game that is longer in length, then choose cards with numbers that are closer to 38.

Bingo games are traditionally classified under the category of games of chances because a win in these games is not based entirely on a sound and effective game strategy. When playing to win in bingo games, then, one cannot possibly find set rules or techniques that one can follow in all strictness to assure victory.

There are, however, several practical tips that can help increase the percentage at which a player will suddenly shout “bingo” at some point during the game. These tips, when taken seriously, should apply well on both land-based and online bingo games.

How do you tell if a Bingo game is going to be longer or shorter? Usually you can tell by the pattern chosen. For instance S, U or Four Corners shapes take a lot longer to win than a simple single diagonal line in Bingo. Still, there are no real statistics (which can be proven by examining the records of Bingo winners) to prove that Tippet’s theory is true.

1. Never play more cards than you can watch, and be careful of “play all you want for $” you’ll end up going nuts trying to watch all your cards!!!

2. Never bang while you are dabbing, dabbers work better if you dab lightly. If you bang hard chances are your dabber will leak. – Submitted by avid player.

3. Paper cards with lower card numbers (free space #) tend to have the numbers closer together card #1 (B-1, 2, 3, 4 & 5; I-16, 17, 18, 19 & 20). Longer games like Coveralls tend to draw numbers in sperts close together. 16 17 then 19 and 20 come out. To win more coveralls, try to come in early and get the first set of paper cards issued. On big nights managers stock the counter with plenty cards usually the ones on top are the lowest free space number cards. Check the next coverall for yourself. Notice the flashboard. Lighted up numbers usually in sets by the 30′th number called. – Submitted by: Chris Dudak Bingo Manager Extraordinaire!

4. Be curtious to those around you. Do not yell out loud the number you need!

5. Burning the number (on paper cards) does not mean that it will come out the next time.

6. Buy a card for a neighbor once a night. You never know when you will want one more game when your wallet says it’s time to go!

Julien Kabitzke Wins Everest Poker ONE

Julien Kabitzke Wins Everest Poker ONE

Over the Easter weekend, the inaugural running of the Everest Poker ONE took place, with Germany’s Julien Kabitzke emerging with the title in hand.

The tournament, which started Friday at the Salle des Palmiers in Monaco, drew a respectable field of 221 players from around the world. Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee represented the United States, while Canada’s Isabelle Mercier carried the flag for her country. The Team Everest Pros were also out in full force, headed by French poker legend Fabrice Soulier, but only Spain’s Maria Maceiras and France’s Leo Truche survived Day 1.

Twenty-one players from the field would take their share of the €1,071,850 prize pool. Noted Finnish pro Jani Sointula scraped his way into the money by finishing in 21st place, good for a €10,000 payday in the €5,000 buy in tournament. Maceiras was unable to make the final table, but took home €14,000 for her 15th place finish. At stake for the nine who made the final table was a first place prize of €300,000.

At the start of the final table on Sunday afternoon in Monaco, German players dominated the top of the leaderboard. Chip leader Alexander Debus held 1.6 million, but joining him in the million-chip club were fellow compatriots Marc Sander (1.4 million) and Kabitzke (1.2 million). After a huge pot in the first level of play at the final table, Debus expanded his lead over Kabitzke to 5:2.

Then, Kabitzke, holding pocket queens, and Sander, holding A-K, got the chips to the center pre-flop for an old-fashioned race. The flop was uneventful, but an ace on the turn gave Sander the lead in the hand. Drawing to two outs, Kabitzke’s prayers were answered when a queen hit the river, sending Sander, who held the second largest chip stack at the start of the day, out of the tournament in eighth place.

Another explosive hand resulted in the departure of the United Kingdom’s Adrian Ashton. After initially raising it up to 55,000, Ashton faced a three-bet and aggressively moved all-in. After the call, Ashton tabled pocket sevens against his opponent’s pocket nines. A miraculous seven came on the flop, moving Ashton to the lead. It was a short-lived lead, however, as a nine came on the turn to trump Ashton’s set. Once the case seven failed to appear on the river, Ashton was dumped from the Everest Poker ONE event in seventh place.

Australia’s Joel Dobbs and France’s Julien Pouchain represented the online qualifiers at the final table and a clash between the two resulted in the next knockout. Pouchain looked for a double up with pocket queens against Dobbs’ suited A-J. After fading the flop, Pouchain could not dodge the turn ace, which gave Dobbs the lead. Failing to hit one of the two queens remaining in the deck, Pouchain was eliminated in sixth place.

Dobbs turned out to be the major story of the Everest Poker ONE tournament, coming from the second lowest chip stack at the start of the final table to contend for the title. He surged into third place after Pouchain’s elimination, but could not grind any closer to Kabitzke and Debus. After Kabitzke was able to knock out Dobbs, heads-up play began with Debus holding the lead.

Over the span of the next hour-and-a-half, the two Germans battled valiantly to capture the Everest Poker ONE championship. Gradually, however, Kabitzke was able to ease into the lead before delivering the coup d’etat. With Kabitzke holding pocket queens on an innocuous 10-8-3 board, Debus attempted to push him off the hand while holding top pair with 10-7. After Kabitzke’s call, a four on the turn and a river nine delivered the championship to Kabitzke.

Online Slots tips

Filed under: Online Poker Tips — admin @ 2:55 am

Playing slots is easy. If you’re new to slots, don’t let yourself get distracted by the thousands of colorful symbols, and other bells and whistles (sometimes literally) that adorn a game. When it comes down to it, all slot games are basically the same, and if you can play one you can play them all. To start playing your desired slot game simply enter the slots area of the casino from the main 56Casino lobby. There you’ll find the huge 56Casino selection of games-everything from 5 reel to 7 reel, to progressives.

Once you find the game you only need to click on it, and you’ll instantly enter the game interface.

To start spinning simply enter the desired coin size by clicking the COIN buttons.

Next all you have to do is change the number of coins you are playing with.

Note on the Number of Coins

It is important to remember here that the more coins you bet, the more pay-lines you’ll activate. Although you will risk less by playing with fewer coins, in all of my casino experience I’ve come to totally believe that the best way to maximize your chances of winning is to play with max number of coins each time with a low coin size. This will enable you to stretch out your play long enough so that you will be able to play longer and increase your chances of winning the jackpot. When it comes to slots, winning the jackpot is what you really want to do in order to ensure your money back.

Other Casino Games Offered

56Casino is known as the home of slots, but you may be surprised at the amount of other online casino games that are available. The classics like blackjack, craps, and roulette are just as gorgeous as the famous online slots games. If you have never played video poker, then you should give this game a try for its killer odds over the house. Slots players find it an attractive transition for its similar look to the slot machines.

Download Games or Play Flash Slots in Web Browser

The choice to download or play using Flash in your web browser is up to you. There are advantages for both options. The advantage using the free software download is that you get the absolute premier experience in graphics. Using Flash slots is great if you are a guest on another computer for a quick game or two. The drawback of flash is that you are much more reliant on the speed of your Internet connection to stream the action.

Slots Tournaments

Slots Tournaments are fun to play. Competing against other players adds to the excitement for those with a competitive nature. For some players winning the title is almost as important as winning the prize money. Some players prefer tournaments because they know ahead of time what their potential losses will be. Since tournaments have a set entry fee the participants know how much it will cost them to play. They can only lose the amount of their entry fee.

Secure Online Banking System

It is our commitment to our 56Casino members to offer a banking method that is both convenient and secure. Choose from a variety of methods including credit card, wire transfers, and other services like Moneybookers and Click2Pay. Our site is proud to offer customer support to help resolve any question or concern you may have about your account or money transactions. We have been in the business of slots online so long and so successfully because we care about our members and know what matters to you! If you are ready to join the fun, then there has never been a better time than now to play slots and win.

Iowa Senate OKs bill seeking study of online poker

The state Senate has approved a measure requiring the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to study whether to legalize Internet poker in Iowa and issue a report to the Legislature by Dec. 1.

The Senate backed the plan by a 38 to 12 vote Wednesday, and the bill now goes to the House.

The measure calls for a report on issues such as unregulated Internet poker play, consumer protections, responsible gaming and regulatory recommendations.

Proponents say legalizing Internet poker in Iowa could generate tens of millions of dollars in tax money, but others worry about expanded gambling in Iowa.

The bill also lets casinos hold county referendums on gaming just twice, if approved initially and again eight years later. Current law requires a referendum every eight years.

Flop Poker General Knowledge

Filed under: Online Poker Tips — Tags: free online poker, online poker tips, poker tips — admin @ 2:51 am

Definition: The “Flop” is the name for the first three cards dealt, face-up on the board, in community card games like Texas Hold’em and Omaha.

Flop poker is a new free online gambling game that is increasing in popularity not only in land based casinos rooms but also in online casino throughout the North and Midwest. In this poker-based game players use 3 dealt cards and 2 of 3 community cards (the “flop”) to build 5-card poker hands. The players are also competing against each other for a collective pot of money.

In poker, the flop refers to the dealing of the first three face-up cards to the board, or to those three cards themselves, in community card poker variants, particularly Texas hold ‘em and Omaha hold ‘em.

alt=”Flop Poker | Best Online Casino Directory” border=0>The three cards are dealt simultaneously following the completion of the opening round of betting. After the flop, there is a second round of betting, which is followed by the dealing of a fourth, or turn, card; and a fifth, or river, card. The three cards are often dealt face-down in a stack, then the stack is turned face-up and quickly slid to one side to expose all three cards, such that a player cannot be seen to be reacting to one particular card.

After the flop, a player will have seen five of the seven cards that will make up their hand at the showdown. While the flop marks the point at which players have significant information about the value of their hand, three more betting rounds are still to be played out.

Concluded Tips

1. Make an ante wager and a pot wager. The pot wager is usually the table minimum and the ante wager usually starts at $5, but can be more depending on the table. The pot bets are placed in the middle of the table for the player with the best hand.

2.  Receive 3 cards face down. Do not look at them until the dealer tells you to. You are usually not allowed to tell other players what you have since you are competing for a community pot.

3.  Decide whether you are going to raise or fold. Remember that you are going to play with 2 of the dealer’s flop cards, so don’t be so quick to fold a hand that you might think is bad.

4.  Watch the dealer turn over the flop-3 community cards. Each player can use 2 of these cards in conjunction with the 3 cards in their hand to make their strongest 5-card poker hand.

5.  Wait for the dealer to go through each player’s cards to determine who has the best hand. A pair of jacks or higher will pay on the ante. The player with the best hand will win the pot.

Poker Mathematics Two

Filed under: Online Poker Tips — Tags: free online poker, online gaming guide, party poker — admin @ 2:53 am

Knowing the basics of poker mathematics will do us no good whatsoever if we don’t know how to use that knowledge. Hopefully anyone reading this has read the first three parts of my poker math series. If not, you may want to do so before you continue. I’m going to present this “lesson” part of my series in the form of steps: Counting Outs, Starting Hand, Choose to apply.

Counting Outs

If you count your outs (the number of unseen cards that will give you the best hand) and multiply them by two you will come up with your approximate chance in percentage of hitting one of your outs on the next card. It’s actually a bit more accurate to multiply your outs by two and then add one. When chasing a flush draw you have 9 unseen clubs left in the deck that will give you the best hand. 9×2=18+1=19. You have about a 19% chance of hitting a club on the next card. 19% is about 4 to 1 odds. 20% is 4 to 1 exactly. If 20% of the deck will make you a flush, the other 80% won’t. 80 to 20 is the same as 4 to 1. In our example, I said that I was estimating conservatively, and that’s because I’m only counting the cards that are sure to give you the best hand. You also have the aces and kings in the deck that would give you top pair top kicker. There are actually three more kings and three more aces that may be outs. Depending on how tight or aggressive your opponent is, you might count those as ½ an out a piece. Your opponent could have a hand that is beating top pair, counterfeiting your kings and aces as outs. That’s called discounting outs, I’ll address it in more detail later in this series.

When drawing, it’s important to remember to compare your chances of hitting your hand on the next card alone to your current pot odds when deciding if you should draw. That’s because, if you call and miss your hand you will likely be facing another bet on the next card. I’m surprised how often a player will call a large bet on a draw when they have two cards left, then fold to the same bet if they miss the first card. The, somewhat fuzzy, logic behind this is in thinking that they have a good chance to improve with two cards left and then folding when they miss the first one. The truth is, of course, if you were going to fold your hand if you missed the turn then you didn’t actually have two cards to begin with. More often than not the pot is actually offering better odds after the turn then after the flop. My point is, simply, that you must take poker one decision at a time. The only time you should weigh your odds of hitting an out with two cards coming against the pot odds is when one of you will be all-in after the flop. When that’s the case you can go ahead and assess your chances of hitting your hand with two cards to come and compare them to the price the pot is laying you. And the easy, and approximate, formula is (again) your outs X2 + 1 per card.

Let’s go thru another example; let’s suppose you’re in a $5-$10 limit hold ‘em game. The blinds are $2-$5; you call in first position with 6c6d. Your call initiates a string of calls, then the dealer button raises. Everyone calls the raise so the pot contains $60 and is being contested by 6 players. The flop comes Ad 5h Tc, no help to you. With two over-cards to your pair you have to assume you’re beaten. Everyone checks to the dealer who bets out $5. Action folds to you, what should you do? Well let’s do some math. The pot is offering $65 to $5, which is a huge price, 13 to 1. You can figure to have two outs in the deck which only gives you about a 5% chance of hitting. You actually need about 19 to 1 to call here. 5% converts to 1 chance in 20. 1 chance in 20 converted over to odds becomes 19 to 1 against. Even if you count the implied odds (the bets you’ll collect after you do make your hand), I’d say this is a fold. Some players might call the bet thinking that they can make a lot of money with the set if they do hit it. While the math might indicate that it is at least close to a call, you also have to consider that there are more players yet to act and any of them could put in a re-raise making it more expensive than you anticipated to continue to chase your set. All things considered, this is a fold.

Starting hands

Many of the hands that are playable when the blinds are small diminish in value as the blinds increase. For instance, most players value JTs over K3o when playing No Limit Hold ‘em, however, king three off suit is actually a favorite against jack ten suited in an all-in confrontation. The appeal of “speculative” hands such as KQs and suited connectors like JTs comes from the hands’ “post- flop” playability. Hands like AXs and small pocket pairs are valued in cash games and early in tournaments because of their “implied value”. The hands are easy to play after the flop and have the potential to flop monsters. When you strip away the post- flop play, such as when a tournament gets to the final stages and the blinds and antes inflate, few players really understand the transition that occurs in hand rankings. Hopefully, this article will give you a bit of the insight that all the top tournament players use to finish at the top.

The information I’m about to share has a great deal of practical application, most of which we will not discuss here. After reading this article and setting a few basic ideas to memory, you will be able to determine the win percentages of any two starting hands instantly. Sound hard to believe? It’s a lot simpler than it sounds. There are tons and tons of two card combinations and setting to memory the exact percentages of every match up would be nearly impossible. All of these match ups can be grouped into 8 simple categories and you can know within a few percentage points exactly what the numbers are for every conceivable combination just by remembering these eight match ups.

Choose to apply

Imagine that you are on the dealer button with AKh (ace king of hearts) and everyone folds to the player to your immediate right who raises to 60. You re-raise to 180, total. (That’s what we do with big slick on the button right? Right!) The blinds fold and the cut- off seat (the player one to the right of the dealer) calls your re-raise. The flop comes; 9h 3h Qs. The cut- off player bets 110 chips into a 390 chip pot do you…

  • a) raise
  • b) fold
  • c) call

The pot contains 500 chips and will cost you 100 chips to contest. You’re getting 5 to 1 on your money and are only the odds are only 4 to 1 against you making the nuts (as long as you still have chips in play, the odds should be considered one card at a time), not to mention any ace or king might give you the best hand. This is a clear call. The aggressive way to play the hand might even be to re-raise as a “semi- bluff”. A semi- bluff is a bet designed to take the pot down uncontested but that has potential to turn into the best hand if it does happen to get called. Sometimes a player who is not sure if there hand is good will make small “information” bets fully intending to fold if they are raised. That might make a semi- bluff the best play. If I’d played with this particular player before and I’d seen him make small bets for information or as bluffs, I’d raise. In this example we don’t have any information to go on so our default option should be to take a cheap card and see if you hit your hand. The biggest problem with raising is that it would give our opponent a chance to re-raise and put us to a difficult decision, perhaps for all of our chips. We’ll go ahead and leave the difficult decisions to our opponents if we can.

Hope these tips will do you good. Best hands will be in your hand, place these out in your game at Party Poker. For more reading, go to Online Gaming Guide.

On this site we have tried to give you the best bingo tips and tactics to give you the best possible chance at winning money when playing internet bingo. One the great thing about bingo online is that you don’t have to buy any bingo cards or other bingo supplies. We will show you how you can play free online bingo and still win real money prizes, plus we will show you the best online bingo halls that offer you no deposit (meaning free money) bonuses. As well as showing you where you can get the best return if you do decide to make a deposit. No matter whether you enjoy bingo or casino games like pokies or roulette, it’s a lot easier and just as much fun playing online.

Bingo is a game of chance, there is little players can do to change the odds of the game. Here are some tips to improve the game. Below you can find some useful tips to help you playing the game easier:

  • Never play more cards than you can watch. Be careful of “play all you want for $”, you’ll end up going nuts trying to watch all your cards.
  • Learn to use chat accronyms to speed up chat conversations. (Click here for a helpful list of chat accronyms)
  • Share your prize when you win. Give a lucky dollar to those near you. If they win a large prize they may do the same, and especially if they won because of your lucky dollar. If you really want to win at Bingo, play on night when the Hall is less crowded. Less crowded means less cards in game that equals more wining chances. Buy as much cards per game, but remember not to buy to many, always be comfortable with the number of cards you are playing with.
  • Never bang while you are dabbing. Dabbers work better if you dab lightly. If you bang hard chances are your dabber will leak. Don’t play with many cards. If you can’t watch all your cards, you are going to get confused checking the numbers being draw. Don’t mark up your numbers to hard, if you do this, your dabber will probably leak.
  • Paper cards with lower card numbers (free space #) tend to have the numbers closer together card #1 (B: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, I: 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20).
  • Be curtious to those around you. Do not yell out loud the number you need.
  • Burning the number (on paper cards) does not mean that it will come out the next time.
  • Buy a card for a neighbor once a night. You never know when you will want one more game when your wallet says it’s time to go. Be nice with your neighbors, don’t shout and beg for a number to come out.
  • Share the wealth when you win. Toss out a lucky dollar to those around you when you win. If they win a larger jackpot, they could return the lucky dollar (ten fold), especially if they win with your lucky dollar.
  • If you want to win at Bingo, play bingo on nights that are generally slower for the operators (Monday – Thursday usually less players than weekends). Being a game of chance if there are fewer players then there are fewer cards in play. If you have as many cards as you can comfortably play and there are fewer cards in play, due to lower crowds, then you have a larger percent of cards in play. Odds in your favor? I think so, especially if the hall you play at offers electronic bingo (computer bingo) and you have 2 or 3 cards per game.
